Ups and Downs

Saturday, April 30, 2011

You know how life kind of catches you off-guard sometimes? Although it happened dozens and dozens of times already, you really never get used to that feeling. That feeling in the tummy that makes you go - Oh.

This month has been pretty much a roller coaster ride of emotions. There were definitely indecisions, fear, happiness and anxiety. All sort of stuff that come and go as they please in my heart. There are decisions to be made, things to seriously think about.

Despite these things, there were days too when I woke up with a song in my heart and God whispering to me that I have to just let go and let Him reveal His plans to me. And so, that is what I will do.

I lift all of it up to Him. I trust that all things will be beautiful in His perfect time.

30. The Confession

Another Grisham novel that made me cry. I started and just kept reading till I can't read anymore. :D

"You count the days and watch the years go by. You tell yourself, and you believe it, that you'd rather just die. You'd rather stare death boldly in the face and say you're ready because whatever is waiting on the other side has to be better than growing old in a six-by-ten cage with no one to talk to. You consider yourself half-dead at best. Please take the other half.

You've watched dozens leave and not return, and you accept the fact that one day they'll come for you. You're nothing but a rat in their lab, a disposable body to be used as proof that their experiment is working. An eye for an eye, each killing must be avenged. You kill enough and you're convinced that killing is good.

You count the days, and then there are none left. You ask yourself on your last morning if you are really ready. You search for courage, but the bravery is fading. When it's over, no one really wants to die."

Everyday Bible.

Thursday, April 28, 2011

It is only by chance that I came across this super wonderful website. :) It was retweeted by Pastor Paolo and I checked it out. It is now part of my daily readings and I love it.

I know, a physical bible is number one and I still love mine with all its flaglets and EN2010 bookmark but this is actually very convenient. :D

You can actually customize your reading plan and has a little gauge on the side to tell you the percentage of completion. Plus, you have different bible versions to choose from - which I find awesome because I just realized, I like reading it using The Message version.

Easy to read, easy to absorb. Oh btw, you can save the app in yer mobile too. - Easy.

Any who - just sharing. Again the wonderful site is http://www.youversion.com/.

28. Lucky

Memoir of Alice Sebold. The book where she bore everything that happened to her when she was rape. How she fought in court, in school and even at home. She is such a strong person.

♥ Memory could save, that it had power, that it was often the only recourse of the powerless, the oppressed or the brutalized.

Everything

Friday, April 15, 2011

I blog hop alot - a whole lot. I often bookmark stuffs, add it in my google reader or pin things in pinterest. I read and take down so much stuff, I am always surprised to find notes long forgotten - in my phone, notepads and e-mail.

Cleaning my personal Inbox, I saw tons of drafts. This quote just caught my attention.

Everything in life is connected somehow. You may have to dig deep to find it but its there. Everything is the same even though its different. Somehow everything connects back with your life. The faces in certain places may be different, but the situation is the same. Irony is a hidden factor that creeps around us in life, letting its presence felt only after it has left. Picture back to a year ago and the situation you were in. Look at how things are different yet somehow everything it still in someway cognate. Everything connects together to form the balance of life, to maintain structure. Change is and always will be inevitable, but everything is relative, and all the moments and times in your life will come back around again, you just might find yourself on the other side of the coin. Things are always changing, as fast as everything stays the same.

Another book by Jodi Picoult, I liked how the characters relate to each other. I actually like all the characters this time. I just wish Delia and Fitz did not get together towards the end of the book.

It's choice that makes us human
Is Fate getting what you deserve, or deserving what you get?

I love love love this cover of Home by father and daughter duo, Jorge and Alexa Narvaez. This is awesome.

You can actually vote for them in the O Music Awards for Best Fan Cover. Vote using this link.

26. Anna and the French Kiss

This book made me smile and all giddy. This is a real piece of work by Stephanie Perkins. I am not usually the romatic comedy books kind of girl unless its really really funny or sarcastic funny; but this book just made giddy as a school girl. :)

♥ The more you know who you are, and what you want, the less you let things upset you.

Boys turns girls into such idiots!

25. The Bedwetter

Monday, April 11, 2011

I've always loved reading biographies, probably because I like knowing how other people live their lives. I just finished reading Sarah Silverman's The Bedwetter: Stories of courage, redemption and pee.

She is hilarious and so is this book. Although, I didn't particularly like the afterword by "God" the whole book is still quite funny. Her materials are really controversial and doesn't sit well with others but I still like her.

WOTL

I am such a Lourd de Veyra fan. He is smart and funny without even trying. I actually subscribed to his youtube channel just so I wont miss any of the posts. :)

this is his latest, and could be one of my favorites.

24. Perfect Match

Monday, April 4, 2011

My 2nd Jodi Picoult book for this year, and its really good. It made me cry, as expected. I am totally beginning to love Jodi Picoult. In this book, my favorite character is Caleb Frost, the dad.

Envy comes from wanting something that isn't yours. But grief comes from losing something you've already had.

23. Secret life of bees

Saturday, April 2, 2011

I have been trying to read this book for the longest time. I am so glad I finally had the time to sit (more like lie down) and finish this in one go. I love love the book. I love the characters. I love everything about it.

“I hadn’t been out to the hives before, so to start off she gave me a lesson in what she called “bee yard etiquette.” She reminded me that the world was really one big bee yard, and the same rules worked fine in both places: Don’t be afraid, as no life-loving bee wants to sting you. Still, don’t be an idiot; wear long sleeves and long pants. Don’t swat. Don’t even think about swatting. If you feel angry, whistle. Anger agitates, while whistling melts a bee’s temper. Act like you know what you’re doing, even if you don’t. Above all, send the bees love. Every little things wants to be loved.”
